The Melbourne Law Doctorates
The CMCL welcomes students interested in undertaking a research in a range of legal areas, including media, communications, intellectual property, journalism, contempt, privacy, art and law, and law and economics. The CMCL may be available to supervise sociological, doctrinal, law and economics, theoretical and empirical research papers. For a list of expertise within the Melbourne Law School, click here.

The Melbourne Law School's Research Higher Degree program is administered by the Office for Research (Law). For more information on the program, click here. The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is the principal doctoral degree of the University, and involves preparation of a supervised thesis of up to 100,000 words, representing an original and substantial contribution to the knowledge of law. The Doctor of Laws (LLD) is the highest qualification available by examination. The Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) is a professional doctorate in law. It combines coursework and original research at an advanced level in a specialist area, culminating in a doctoral dissertation. Melbourne Law Masters(LLM) is available by thesis or by coursework.
