Networking your Laptop

SPIN (Student Plug In Network) outlets and UniWireless base stations are available throughout the Law School building to allow students with their own laptop computers to browse web sites and check e-mail. Outlets (over 2800 in total) are available in the following locations:

  • all tiered and flatfloor teaching spaces on levels G, M, 1, 2 and 6;
  • throughout the Law Library on levels 3, 4, and 5;
  • the student lounge on level 2; and
  • other open spaces in the Law school on levels G, M, and 1.

The Law School building has wireless access points for students on all levels of the Law School. These are part of the UniWireless network (this replaces the old MUWireless system).

You will need your student login name and password (the same that is utilised for your e-mail and logging into the Law PC labs) in order to access web sites outside the University network. Quotas are enforced for undergraduate (50MB per week) and postgraduate (175MB per week) students for access to external sites. The quota is reset midnight each Sunday.

Information on how to configure your laptop on the SPIN network is available on the Information Division web site.

UniWireless

UniWireless is the University's new campus-wide solution for connecting laptop computers and mobile devices to the Internet. Information Services has technotes detailing configuration on a range of platforms.

We urge all students to use VPN to ensure their security is not compromised when using wireless networking.
