William Blackstone is well known to lawyers as the author of the Commentaries on the Laws of England, but Professor Prest will be focusing more specifically on Blackstone's career as lawyer and judge.

Wilfrid Prest was educated at the Universities of Melbourne and Oxford.  He is Professor Emeritus in Law and History at the University of Adelaide. Professor Prest has written extensively on English and Australian legal history. His recent biographical study, 'William Blackstone: Law and Letters in the Eighteenth Century' (OUP 2008) was characterised by a recent reviewer as 'an exceptionally well-written and absorbing study'.
