He specialises in both ends of the contract, from negotiation and advice on contracts to claims and disputes in connection with distressed projects.
He acts on disputes which are important test cases for the industry, for example, dispute regarding replacement contractors on a distressed project.
John is the Law Council of Australia's representative on OB/3 (MB10) Construction Contracts Committee of the Standards Association of Australia, including its suite of construction contracts.
He is co-author of the leading Building and Construction Contracts in Australia.
He is General Editor of the Building and Construction Law Journal. John is a Past President of The Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia and a former lecturer in building contracts and evidence at the University of Sydney and in arbitration at the University of NSW. He is a senior fellow of the University of Melbourne, lecturing in the Master of Laws in construction law.
