Professor Richard Mitchell

Richard Mitchell has been engaged in labour law teaching and research for more than 30 years.  Educated in labour law and industrial relations at the University of Melbourne and the London School of Economics and Political Science, he is the vice president of the Australian Labour Law Association. 

Prior to 2004, Richard Mitchell was Joint Editor of the Australian Journal of Labour Law for 15 years, and Director of the Centre for Employment and Labour Relations Law for 10 years.  In these capacities he is a member of, or associated with, the International Industrial Relations Association, the Association of Industrial Relations Academics of Australia and New Zealand, and a consortium of leading international labour law journals.  Professor Mitchell has acted as an advisor to Federal and State governments, and many trade union organisations. 

His principal areas of research expertise are in labour market regulation, human resources and employment relationships and comparative labour law systems (particularly in the Asia/Pacific region), and he has published extensively across these areas, and in labour law generally.
