Rod Smolla is Dean of the School of Law at Washington and Lee University, and a prominent and respected constitutional law scholar. He authored Free Speech in an Open Society, which was awarded the William O Douglas Award as the book of the year on freedom of expression.
He has also written four major legal treatises, Law of Defamation; Federal Civil Rights Acts; Smolla and Nimmer on Freedom of Speech; and Law of Lawyer Advertising, and has written numerous popular books on legal issues. Rod is also an active litigator in constitutional law issues and has argued cases in numerous Federal and State courts, including the United States Supreme Court.
