Scholarships at Melbourne Law School
Melbourne Law School offers a number of prestigious scholarships each year to suitably qualified candidates.
Melbourne Law School Scholarship
Awarded to four current law students each year based on past academic performance in legal studies and demonstrated financial need. These scholarships will be awarded to students enrolled in the Melbourne JD or LLB.
Melbourne Law School Completion Bursary
Bursary awarded to provide fee assistance to domestic Full Fee Melbourne JD students.
The Alastair Nicholson Law Scholarship
Awarded to an indigenous Melbourne JD or LLB student based on significant academic achievement and financial need.
The DLA Piper Geoff Masel Prize
Valued at $2,000, this prize is awarded for significant academic achievement in the face of adversity.
The Ian Malkin Internship Scholarship
Awarded to a Melbourne JD or LLB student who is undertaking an internship with a not-for-profit or government organisation.
The John and Alison Kearney Overseas Scholarship
For students undertaking an exchange or study abroad. Five scholarships, valued at $5,000 each, will be awarded.
The Malcolm DH Smith Memorial Scholarship
Available to assist first-year Melbourne JD students who have completed an undergraduate law degree or a degree majoring in Asian studies at a tertiary institution in Australia or Asia.
The Philip Solomon SC Scholarship
Available to current Melbourne JD students who have completed at least five subjects, one of which must include Evidence and Proof (LAWS50037) or Advocacy (LAWS50055), and who have an interest in working at the Victorian Bar.
The Valerie and Lawrence Kennedy Scholarship
Awarded to mature age Melbourne JD or LLB students based on academic performance and financial need.
The Victorian Bar: Justice Kenneth Hayne Scholarship
Awarded to a law student based on academic ability and demonstrated financial need.

The Mallesons Stephen Jaques Award for Corporations Law
To the student placed first in LAWS50035 Corporations Law, valued at $1,000.
The Herbert Geer Award for Torts
To the student placed first in LAWS50025 Torts, valued at $1,000.
The Mallesons Stephen Jaques Award for Legal Theory in the Melbourne JD
To the student placed first in LAWS50031 Legal Theory, valued at $1,000.
The Blake Dawson Prize for Property in the Melbourne JD
To the student placed first in LAWS50030 Property, valued at $1,000.
The Griffith Hack Prize for Intellectual Property in the Melbourne JD
To the student placed first in Intellectual Property, valued at $1,000.
The Allens Arthur Robinson Award for Obligations in the Melbourne JD
To the student placed first in LAWS50026 Obligations, valued at $1,000.
The Daniel McCluskey Social Justice Prize
Awarded to a law student who has demonstrated an involvement in social justice, human rights, equality or a related area, valued at $1,036.66. Further details.
