The Law Library, as part of the University of Melbourne Library, welcomes visitors to
use its facilities. Visitors can use books, microfiche, and some computer databases
in the library.
By becoming members
of the library, visitors become eligible to borrow non-restricted items in the collection. The Library offers three categories of memberships: non-paying, concession paying and full paying. These memberships (depending on which membership you are eligible to have) allow you to borrow either 10, 30 or 60 items.
Access to computers - the Library Catalogue
Non-Melbourne University users can access the University catalogue by using the dedicated "catalogue only" computers in the Reference area (Level 3). There are 2 catalogues - Coolcat, which searches the catalogues of most educational institutions in Victoria, and Webpac, which contains records of all items held within the University of Melbourne Library system. The location of the items held should be noted when searching the catalogue. Items in the Law Library have the prefix UniM Law.

Access to computers - the Law School Network
Public access to a range of legal research databases is available via the public access computers around the Law Library. Due to the licence agreements entered into with publishers, some databases are not available to outside users.
Photocopying
Photocopy cards may be purchased from a dispensing machine in the Open Reserve area on level 3. Cards cost $2.00, which includes 9 copies. Value can be added to the card in any denomination. Please note that photocopy cards may only be purchased with coins and that change is not available within the Law Library. Once you have purchased a card you may add value to it using coins or notes. |
