Disability Services in the Law Library

This guide is a brief introduction to some of the disability services provided at the Law Library.

Location

The Law Library is located within the Law School building at 185 Pelham Street Carlton. (Melways map 2B 9C). The nearest tram stop is the Lincoln Square stop (stop number 3) on Swanston Street.

Metered 2 and 4 hour car parking is available in the surrounding streets. A large underground car park is located adjacent to the Law School building beneath University Square. Entry is from Berkeley Street and lifts operate to all levels.

Access to the Law Library

The building has two entrances that open onto Pelham Street. Both entrances are wheelchair accessible. Lifts are located in the centre of the building. The Law Library has an internal lift located on the western side of the building that provides access to levels 3, 4 and 5.

 

Assistance retrieving books

Law Library staff will retrieve books on request. If you have difficulty accessing any part of the collection please ask at the loans desk for assistance.

 

Discussion Rooms

Group discussion rooms are available for University of Melbourne students enrolled in law. These may be booked online on the Law Library home page for up to three hours per person per day. The rooms offer a quiet self-contained space to work, seat six people and are equipped with power outlets, data outlets and whiteboard.

 

Special Needs Room

A special needs room, located on level 4 of the Law Library, is available for use by University of Melbourne students. The room is equiped with a PC (with JAWS software), a large screen, scanner and printer.

Law Library PC Labs

The Law Library has 3 computer labs (rooms 317, 319 and 320) avaiable for University of Melbourne students enrolled in law. All three labs are located at the eastern end of level 3. No bookings are required. Priority seating for special needs users is available in the middle lab (room 319). IT assistance is available. Disability Liaison Unit

The Disability Liaison Unit (DLU) has primary responsibility for facilitating the participation of students with disabilities. This is done primarily by working with students to identify reasonable adjustments that promote opportunities and independence in the pursuit of academic success. The DLU also works closely with all members of the University community to progress the University's commitment to equity and inclusion.
