Deborah Hensler is Judge John W Ford Professor of Dispute Resolution and Associate Dean for Graduate Studies at Stanford Law School. Her areas of interest include civil procedure and complex litigation, negotiation and alternative dispute resolution and public policy. She has testified before state and federal legislatures in the United States on a range of liability and dispute resolution issues and consulted with judges and lawyers outside of the US on the design of class action regimes. She has authored and co-edited various publications, including The Globalization of Class Actions and Class Action Dilemmas: Pursuing Public Goals For Private Gain.

She has used a variety of social science research methods to explore civil justice issues and was the founder of the RAND Institute’s Survey Research Group. Professor Hensler has  authored or co-authored over 20 Rand Civil Justice Institute Reports on a variety of topics, including compensation for mass harm, class actions, asbestos litigation and alternative dispute resolution. One of these, Class Action Dilemmas: Pursuing Public Goals for Private Gain, is a leading international reference on class actions.
