Ian Heath was the Director General of IP Australia, the Commonwealth Government agency responsible for intellectual property administration, from 1999 to 2008. He had previously held senior positions in various Commonwealth Government portfolios including health, immigration and indigenous affairs. He is now the principal of First Thoughts, an intellectual property consulting service.
