James Paterson is the Head of Planning, Insights and Legal at Events NSW, the State’s events company. Events NSW was established in late 2007 to partner with all levels of government, business, the community and the events industry to develop and bring events to Sydney and NSW with the objective of maximising their economic, strategic and community benefits. Events NSW has developed a Master Events Calendar featuring a range of events that are unique to Sydney and NSW and highlight the State’s natural assets, vibrancy, creativity and unmatched way of life. James is responsible for leading a team focussed on delivering world’s best practice event due diligence, assessment and evaluation; the strategic planning and reporting function; and the day to day legal affairs of the Company.

James has extensive experience in the events industry, having consulted to most of the region’s events companies and tourism bodies prior to his current role at Events NSW. Since graduating from the ANU with Commerce and Law degrees, he has worked with organisations such as: Australian Sports Commission, Major League Baseball International and NSW Rugby before managing the Australian and New Zealand office of global sponsorship research consultancy, SiS, for seven years. He has also consulted to numerous household brands like Quiksilver, Foster’s, ANZ, MasterCard and Ford to name a few. James also has a Master’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts.
