Jayashree Watal is currently Counsellor in the Intellectual Property Division of the World Trade Organization (WTO). She also holds the position of Adjunct Professor of Law at the Georgetown University Law Center, United States.
She has more than 22 years’ government experience in India, of which ten years was devoted to policy, diplomacy, research and administration on intellectual property rights. She worked as Director, Trade Policy Division, Ministry of Commerce and represented India at a crucial stage in the Uruguay Round of Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) negotiations. She has researched and published articles on issues related to intellectual property rights.
