Dr Stewart Motha

Stewart Motha is Senior Lecturer of Public Law at Kent Law School, University of Kent, United Kingdom.

He has published widely on sovereignty and law, religion and pluralism, violence and democracy. His research draws on political and social theory to examine contemporary juridical and governmental challenges at the intersection of nation, culture, science, technology and theology. He is a Fellow of the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study, South Africa, and has worked in Sri Lanka, Australia, Canada, South Africa and the UK.

He received his PhD from Birkbeck, University of London and completed his doctoral research on postcolonial sovereignty – investigating the intersection between sovereignty, community and law in Australia. In 2010 he was shortlisted as UKCLE and Oxford University Press, National Law Teacher of the Year.
