The Tax Group hosts regular significant events for the academic and professional tax community in Melbourne.
Melbourne Law School Annual Tax Lecture
The Tax Group at Melbourne Law School is proud to host the Melbourne Law School Annual Tax Lecture. The purpose of the Annual Tax Lecture Series is to place the development of the tax law in its historical context, and to inform public debate on important tax issues. It brings leading members of the tax profession and academy to present their views on taxation law developments over time.
International Fiscal Association seminars
The Melbourne Law School Tax Group hosts the International Fiscal Association (Australian Branch) seminars in Melbourne. At these meetings, prestigious international tax scholars and professionals present papers on important and topical issues. The Tax Group has hosted Professor David Rosenblum of New York University School of Law, USA, Professor Kees van Raad of Leuven University, Belgium and Professor Brian Arnold of University of Western Ontario, Canada, among others.
Tax Discussion Group
The Tax Group at Melbourne Law School hosts a Tax Discussion Group, on a quarterly basis, for all permanent and adjunct tax faculty members. The Tax Discussion Group allows the members of the tax faculty to consider and discuss recent and proposed legislation, cases and strategic developments in tax law and practice, in a convivial and informal environment.
The Tax Discussion Group is organised and chaired by Associate Professor Miranda Stewart with Professor Tony Pagone QC.
Guests, alumni and postgraduate students working or studying in the area of taxation law may participate in the Tax Discussion Group by invitation. All inquiries should be directed to Associate Professor Miranda Stewart on m.stewart@unimelb.edu.au.
